Who We Are

Founded in 1992 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, by Mr. Yoji Senna, the Afro-Brazilian Capoeira Association is the first capoeira school in the Twin Cities. We follow the system of the Centro de Pesquisa, Estudo e Instrução de Capoeira Senavox in Bahia, Brazil. Mestre Senna (filho) is the son of Mestre Carlos Senna, student of Mestre Bimba. Despite being an Afrocentristic organization, the ABCA is an all-inclusive capoeira school.

WE HAVE A NEW STUDIO! As of August 2015 we are in a new studio space. The address is 117 27th Ave SE, Minneapolis, MN 55414. We are in a warehouse studio space behind the Smith-Sharpe Firebrick Supply building. To get in, go to the dirt parking lot at the end of the building and follow the backside of the building until the end. You will see a raised loading dock with two big open doors. The studio space is right inside.

Capoeira classes are held every day of the week. See the full class schedule for times and contact information. We hold an open roda Saturdays at 3:30 p.m. at Lake Harriet Bandshell.

University student? Check out our student capoeira group, AB Kilombo.

New sessions for Capoeira Kids (ages 5-9) and Capoeira Teens (ages 10-16) start every 8 weeks. They will learn basic capoeira movements, music, and have fun. E-mail abcapoeira@gmail.com to reserve your child’s place.
