who we are

Mestre Yoji Senna

Founded in 1992 in Minneapolis, MN., by Mr. Yoji Senna, the Afro-Brazilian Capoeira Association is the first capoeira school in the Twin Cities. We follow the system of the Centro de Pesquisa, Estudo e Instrução de Capoeira Senavox in Bahia, Brazil. Mestre Senna (filho) is the son of Mestre Carlos Senna, student of Mestre Bimba.

Despite being an Afrocentristic organization, the ABCA is an all-inclusive capoeira school.

"Capoeira é jeito, agilidade, inteligência e paciência, o que vale mais que força, raiva, destemor e valentia." (Capoeira is skill, agility, intelligence, and patience, which rings louder than force, rage, fearlessness and bravery.)
